Product Care Guide

BITTER BUTTER garments are crafted from natural fibers and plant-based dyes. Unlike synthetic materials, these pieces respond to light, water, and time. With thoughtful care, your garment will soften, evolve, and develop a character unique to your journey with it.

Washing & Drying

Handwash Recommended: Gently handwash separately in room-temperature water.

Detergent: Use only mild, pH-neutral detergents. Avoid bleach, enzymes, or strong chemicals.

The First Wash: Natural dyes are absorbed deeply into the fiber, slight color release during the first few washes is normal. Always wash fully immersed to prevent watermarks.

Drying: Reshape while damp and dry on a hanger in the shade. Prolonged direct sunlight can cause natural tones (especially Indigo and Madder) to shift or fade prematurely.

Pressing & Storage

Ironing: Iron on a warm setting on the reverse side. Avoid using steam or spraying water directly on the fabric, as this can create temporary spotting on herbal dyes.

Storage: Store in a cool, dry place away from windows. If folding for a long period, ensure the garment is away from light to prevent "line fading" along the folds.

The Nature of Herbal Dyes

Plant-dyed textiles are artisanal and "reactive." Please keep the following in mind:

Citrus & Acids: Avoid contact with lemon juice or acidic substances, which can act as a natural "bleach" on certain plant dyes.

Tone Shifts: Changes in water pH or mineral content may cause subtle, beautiful shifts in tone over time.

Batch Variations: Because we dye in small batches, no two pieces are identical. These variations are the signature of the craft.
